| A LONE WOUNDED DUCK remained in the Plaza pond Monday morning. Robbi Pengelly/Index-Tribune The 18 ducklings born in the Plaza disappeared over the weekend. All that remained was a few piles of feathers, some broken eggs and a pond of traumatized ducks. |

| Chicago more or less burned down in 1871 after an incredible fire ripped through the city. No one really knows how the fire was started, although many people point to the O'Leary cow, which allegedly knocked over a lantern into a bed of straw. After the hot and dry summer, the town went up like kindling. Now, there's a soccer team named after the conflagration. |
