Soaring energy prices helped push up Canadian retail sales in June by 0.5 percent from May and by an unexpectedly steep 1.4 percent if auto and gasoline sales are excluded, Statistics Canada said on Wednesday.
OTTAWA, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Higher gas prices were attributed to a 0.5-percent increase in Canadian monthly retail sales in June to $36 billion, the Statistics Canada agency reported.
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., the largest U.S. tiremaker, said it will close 92 money-losing retail stores with about 500 full-time workers by the end of the year.
